WASM remembers Frances Balogh

It is with deep regret that I announce that Frances Balogh, nee Smith passed away Wednesday, October 7 2020. She is survived by her loving sons Alexander and Brian and pre-deceased by Dennis Gillson, her loving partner of 28 years. Frances passed peacefully in her sleep at home.

Frances grew up in California where she won many beauty contests such as Miss Oakland in 1955. Her and her two sisters were a local hit as the singing group the Smith Sisters. A modelling stint in New York led her to eventually settle in Montreal. Raising her sons, she also found time to make countless art pieces in a variety of mediums and worked for 17 years at the National Film Board of Canada. Her art piece “The doll” was featured at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 1972. For many years she was an active and well respected member of the Women’s Art Society of Montreal as well as the Women's Art Studio. She was a proud, smart, gifted artist with a loving, caring soul. She will be remembered by many for her warm character and effervescent spirit. May her love and warmth carry on through those she has known and touched through her beautiful life.

Services will be held at Kane and Fetterly Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 12:30 with limited attendance. Please call Brian at (250) 884 1515 to register for attendance. The hall is large with seating for 20, and over two meters between the seats. Masks are required.
