Workshop with the CBC - Getting Media Attention. March 7, 2023, 2:00-3:30PM

ELAN is pleased to bring back a very popular hands-on workshop presented by CBC Montreal’s Debbie Hynes, Manager of Communications, Marketing & Brand. Getting Media Attention is targeted at artists who struggle with the daunting task of writing their own press releases and pitching them to the media, or arts publicists who want to increase their skills. This workshop will provide practical, hands-on advice on pitching ideas, standing out from the flood of press releases vying for attention, and shaping your story so that it captures the imagination of producers and the audiences they serve.

At the McCord Museum: Artist Karen Tam talks about her latest exhibit that looks at the hidden history of Montreal's Chinatown and the Chinese women who helped build it, using images and artifacts from the museum as well as the community.

Photographer and film director Joannie Lafrenière offers a colourful, sensitive portrait of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood as she takes viewers on an immersive photographic and cinematographic journey. The exhibition documents places but also the relationships people have with a neighbourhood that has undergone many transformations over time.

Last autumn, Odesa Photo Days Festival ran the Photographic Storytelling Mentoring Programme, empowering young artists to document how the war in Ukraine has affected their lives. The 40 projects tell stories of trauma, displacement, resilience, and hope.
