WAM’s fourth annual portrait of women by women exhibition is scheduled for June 21st to July 31st, 2022. This year, WAM will have a selection of works at the museum, in our new (still small) location, and an online component, which can display more artworks and where size is not an issue. Works in progress will also be considered for this exhibition and identified as such.
Portraits of other women can have a far-reaching impact, bringing to light issues of inequality, courage, or endurance in the face of adversity. FOR HER can mean looking at women’s lives from a global perspective to a more personal one. Creating such portraits acknowledges women. It offers an opportunity for the artist to focus on the plights of women, or what brings them joy and satisfaction. It can highlight our solidarity with those we know and admire or support women from distant shores caught in conflicts that affect their quality of life.
FOR HER / SELF demands retrospect by the artist and projects a deeper understanding of the artist. Self-portraits can investigate the creative process through depictions of the surrounding elements and/or project the artist’s feelings via colour, line, and space. The deadline is Wednesday, June 1, 2022 (end of day)
