August 1st is Emancipation Day:

On March 24, 2021, the House of Commons voted unanimously to officially designate August 1 Emancipation Day. It marks the actual day in 1834 that the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect across the British Empire.

My Friend Frankie (MFF) and Good Sport in London, Ontario are holding a duo exhibition to showcase the artistic synergy between two artists, one from London, Ontario, and the other from Montreal, Quebec. The artists are invited to team up and submit a proposal that merges their individual styles and themes, resulting in a cohesive exhibition. The selected duo of artists will have the opportunity to establish an overarching theme by combining their artworks. →Deadline August 31. Click here for details.

The West Island Theatre Association (WISTA) is a non-profit community theatre company seeking a props designer for their upcoming production of The Prom. Positions at WISTA are considered volunteer & non-union however, a small honorarium will be given at the end of the production process to the team members. Click here for details.


The Canadian Jewish Playwriting Competition is now accepting submissions. With more publicity and exposure, up to 20 plays are submitted from six Canadian provinces, the United States and Israel each contest year. The competition is now a bi-annual program.
